Description type used by Fulani women to carry butter to market; this particular object does not show signs of having been used; there does not seem to have been any treatment of the inner surface, nor is there evidence of wear; carved by Hausa men for sale to Fulani women; excised (raised design); body band: 12 panels, 2 similar sequences of 6, each sequence composing approximately one half of the band; the two largest opposing panels consist of a central floral element with 2 diamond elements on either side; the remaining panels are geometric consisting mainly of triangular elements; base: excised lineal encircling bands; curvilinear band and 2 more lineal bands surrounding a large circle at the extreme base; all of the base design elements were left the color of the outer shell of the calabash which is smoother and more yellow; the remainder of the vessel was left the interior color of the gourd
